SPRING SOFTBALL

Overview
Dover-Sherborn participates in the Tri-Valley Fast-Pitch Softball League.  This is a recreational softball league.  All players interested in participating will be placed on a team.  The Try-outs are an opportunity to assess each player’s ability in an effort to balance teams.  All teams will be balanced to ensure fairness and equality among the teams within a division.

Towns participating in Tri-Valley include Ashland, Holliston, Millis, Medway and Medfield.

Teams participate in a division based on the player’s grade.  Divisions are grades 3 & 4; grades 5 & 6; and grades 7 & 8.

Grades 3 & 4 include some coach pitching to move the game along.  This division concludes with an in town round robin tournament.

The seasons for grades 5 & 6 and 7 & 8 conclude with single elimination playoff tournament.

Registration opens January 21st and runs through February 28th.  A late fee of $50 will be charged for registrations that occur after February 28th.

SPRING AAU TRAVEL SOFTBALL

Dover-Sherborn will enter a U14 team in the Spring New England AAU league.  This team will provide girls with a very competitive experience, as a complement to their spring DS softball schedule.

Players must be registered and participating in the Dover-Sherborn Spring Tri-Valley Softball League to be eligible for the Spring AAU Travel Softball team.
The AAU team will play games on Sundays, typically doubleheaders in tournament format starting approximately April 4.  There will be some indoor practice before the season.  Travel will be significant.  Refer to www.neaau.org/softball.aspx.  for more information.

This AAU team will not practice during the school week, and minimally on weekends, so that play on this AAU team will not conflict with High School play or with Tri-Valley league (the usual grade 7/8 spring league) participation.   Girls that are serious about having fun playing softball at a high level should consider participation.  Costs will be determined later.  The AAU team will be coached by Charlie Ognibene and/or others.

If interested, please register on the DSYBS website (not the AAU website).   Note: age limit is that girls may not be older than 14 as of Jan 1, 2010.

SUMMER SOFTBALL

Dover-Sherborn participates in the Twin-Valley Softball League.  This is more competitive and requires more travel than the Tri-Valley league.  Summer softball is a 5 or 6 week season.  Games begin the week following the end of Spring softball and conclude with a playoff by the end of July.

FALL SOFTBALL

Dover-Sherborn participates in the Sharon fall softball league.  All games are held in Sharon on Sunday mornings. This league is an extension of travel softball.  It is an excellent setting for those players who want to improve their skills in a competitive, but fun setting. There are no standings, playoffs or trophies. The fall softball games are held on Sunday mornings at 8am, 9:45am and 11:30am at the Ames St. complex and the Sharon High softball field. The season is 7 games long beginning in late August or early September.
